Sports Premium Funding

The Sports Premium provides primary schools with £320 million of government funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered through their core budgets. It is allocated directly to schools, so they have the flexibility to use it in the way that works best for their pupils.

Any product used by the funding should help develop improvements in the following 5 key indicators:

  • Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  • The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and physical activities offered to all pupils
  • Increased participation in competitive sport

Accountability

Since September 2013, Ofsted Inspections report on PE and sport provision and on how schools spend their additional funding.

PE and Sport at Henbury View First School

At Henbury View First School, we understand the contribution of PE and sport to the health and well-being of our pupils. In addition, we believe that an exciting, varied PE curriculum, combined with extra-curricular opportunities, can help to promote other valuable qualities such as resilience, teamwork, communication and a drive to succeed. We aim to achieve this through a commitment to providing every child with the necessary skills and confidence to participate in sporting activities and in leading a healthy lifestyle. We aim to achieve this through:

  • Providing the children with at least 2 hours each week of high-quality PE
  • Providing every child with an equal opportunity to participate in PE and sport according to their individual ability
  • Greater access to wider range of activities so that all children are able to discover and experience sports that they enjoy and can achieve in
  • Increased opportunities to access a wide variety of sporting activities through after-school sporting clubs and extra-curricular events
  • Opportunities for inter school competition and intra-school competition through colour team and sports day activities

We also strive to promote healthy lifestyle choices through special themes and focus activities e.g. Fitness Friday, School Sports Week, Walk to School Week

Possible plans for the future…

This year we be using the funding to develop and enhance the following areas of PE and school sport :

  • Embedding the curriculum and assessment procedures for PE teaching, enabling target groups of children to be identified for support or further development of skills and competencies.
  • Continuing to support and coordinate a variety of different after school sporting activities
  • Increasing opportunities for children to take part in intra and inter competitions
  • Liase with coaches and other community clubs to organise and deliver PE events regularly to encourage fitness, and healthy lifestyle

All in all exciting times to come for Henbury View First School!
